Aqua Ippan QnA

To try and answer the most frequently asked questions about Aqua Ippan, here's a Questions and Answers section!

Q: On which engine was Aqua Ippan coded?
A: The game was coded on the GameMaker Studio 2 engine.

Q: When is Aqua Ippan going to be released?
A: As of now, I can't set a release date for the game. Though it's not going to be anytime soon!

Q: Will there be ports of this game?
A: As of now my goal is to release it on Windows and maybe Mac. I don't have the means to port it over to consoles yet, but I'd be interested to look into it once the game is complete.

Q: Where can I see development progress of the game?
A: I try to update the itch.io page every now and then, but you can also check out my Twitter page or on my Youtube channel to check if there's any news.

Q: Are there going to be more weapons for the players to use?
A: Yes, however the weapon mechanic is going to work differently than the one featured in Metal Slug.

Q: Why is the game using sound effects from Metal Slug?
A: These sounds are only going to be used temporarily while the game is still a free demo, and I plan to replace them with original ones later.

Q: What's up with the odd control mapping for keyboard?
A: Since the game is a 2 player co-op game for PC, I had to find a proper way for both players to share a single keyboard, which means the mapping may be not as straightforward as other games.
Though this is something I'd like to improve and simplify later on.

Q: The 'How to Play' sequence is not very helpful to the players. Is it going to be improved?
A: Yes! While this is something I can't update now, I'm definitely planning to rework the whole sequence later on.

Q: Why is the select button on my gamepad not working with Aqua Ippan?
A: This seems to be a problem with the engine of the game itself not fully detecting Dinput gamepads properly, so I unfortunately don't have any solution at the moment.

Really enjoyed playing the demo. Spritework and backgrounds rival what snk did back in the day :D i have one complaint tho. The grenades in metal slug flickered a bit so you could see them more clearly but i found myself getting killed by the throwing things a lot, its like they blend into the background. Do you have any plans to make them a little bit more visible in the future?

Thanks a lot for checking out the demo! I'm glad you also appreciated the visuals and background, I'm always happy to hear positive feedback in that regard
Also thanks for your feedback, just to be clear you're talking about the grenades the enemies fire from their guns? If so I can understand the issue you're having, and it's likely some enemy projectiles will be altered to be more easily identified

Are you okay with people ripping and uploading sprites from this game to sites like The Spriters' Resource?

I am! I contributed many sprite sheets to the site myself over the years, so I don't have any problem with people doing the same with this project
My only caveat is that some sheets might be outdated as the game gets more and more developed, so rippers might have to deal with updating their sheets a few times if they rip before the game is out

Hopefully I can add one more question 😅 Do you think we could see a physical DRM-free PC release in the far future? Personally, I've been collecting a ton of physical doujin Japanese PC games. It could be on a disc or flash drive, and even crowdfunded. Whatcha think? 🥺

Thanks for the question!
For now my plan is to first release the game digitally, and then after that I'll maybe look into making physical copies of it 👍

Sounds good! Thank you for your response, and godspeed! 🙏
